Testing of non-separating protective devices

As a machine operator, you are subject to certain operator obligations. One of these is the requirement to regularly check the effectiveness and function of your machine's safety devices. For physical barriers, this is often relatively straightforward, as it only requires checking whether the fence or enclosure is still fulfilling its purpose. However, for non-physical barriers, such as laser scanners or safety light curtains, a measurement must be carried out regularly (generally annually) to verify that the safety device is still reliably and quickly shutting down the machine. This requires a follow-up measurement. We are pleased to offer follow-up measurement services for your machines as part of our portfolio, testing your light curtains and laser scanners to ensure compliance with the German Ordinance on Industrial Safety and Health (BetrSichV) in your company. Our inspectors meet the requirements of TRBS 1203 and are authorized to perform these inspections.

While the operator determines the collision forces and pressures within collaborative robot applications with force and power limitations as part of the risk assessment, the operator is also responsible for regularly checking the effectiveness of the collision detection system after handover from the manufacturer. The German Social Accident Insurance (DGUV) recommends an annual interval for this. However, it is not necessary to repeat all measurements from the risk assessment. A reference measurement repeated annually is usually sufficient. If the measured value remains unchanged, the test is complete. If the measured value has increased by more than 10%, all potential pinch and collision points should be remeasured.
